Transparency in our application process
We aim to foster inclusive dialogue through art at 82Parris and discrimination is never permitted in our gallery space, or in our selection process. Hate speech of any kind is absolutely not tolerated, this is a safe space - and if you feel uncomfortable to any degree for any reason please let one of us know.
How are we selecting work for our Solo/Duo applicants?
We are selecting based on many factors including:
Artistic Innovation: We look for artwork that pushes boundaries, challenges conventions, and demonstrates innovative approaches to artistic expression.
Diverse Perspectives: We encourage artwork that reflects a range of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences.
Merit of work: We consider factors such as composition, use of materials, craftsmanship and cohesion between the visual and conceptual.
Use of space: How might our industrial layout inform your work? We always attach a floor plan to our open-call to help you envision your work in our space :)

Other asked questions:
Can I apply if I’m pursuing a degree?
Yes! We do not put any marks toward an applicant for trying to expand their knowledge.
Do I have to have gallery experience or an art degree to show at 82Parris?
No, we welcome artists of all backgrounds.
What if this body of work has already been shown?
We prioritize showcasing artwork that has not yet had the opportunity to be exhibited. If you have previously held a solo/duo show featuring the same body of work, your selection for a show at 82Parris may be less likely.
How established is too established?
Priority is provided to emerging and mid-career artists. That being said, we really try to give Solo/duo shows to folks who are seeking a foothold and aim to foster community in the Portland area. If you have recently had multiple solo exhibitions or have shown in museum settings this is most likely not the right fit for you. However, we do not require CV’s for our open-call group shows and all levels are welcome to apply!
When do I need to drop off my art for a group show?
Accepted work is expected to be dropped off the weekend prior to our First Friday openings. If you can not make that work we can arrange a different time :)
Do I need to install my own work for Solo/Duo Shows?
Being a DIY space we do encourage a hands-on approach to your exhibition, however there are art handlers and curators on our team who are never far if you need a second pair of eyes or hands–Just let us know !
If I want to have broader gallery hours for my solo show, can I host my own?
Yes, please do! Solo artists are given a pair of keys during their installation and exhibition period.
Can my exhibition have programming beyond the opening?
Offering workshops or artist-talks is permitted! If you are selected and interested in forming programming surrounding your show, talk to us and we would be happy to assist.
Can you apply with work that is not for sale (NFS)?
Yes! This gallery is here for the community and we understand the precious nature of your work. If you don’t want to list it for sale - that is perfectly fine.
